Happy Holidays!

Yes, so this post is a bit belated, but we were so busy having fun and seeing family, I'm just now posting. Josh hadn't seen his Uncle Carl in a little while and kind of forgot who he was, but he warmed up.

Trip to Denver, Colorado

Thursday, December 10th, the three of us took a long weekend trip to Denver, Colorado in order to visit friends Christi, Aaron, and Carter to help celebrate Christi's upcoming 30th birthday. From there, all of us as well as Bob, Misty, and other close friends drove the hour and a half to Copper Mountain in order to hit the slopes! Cathy and I have both only been skiing once before in our lives and that was 12 years ago so we both decided it would be a good idea to take some lessons on Saturday, December 12th. I ventured out a bit the day before on Friday and promptly decided to roll down a mile long hill as opposed to ski down so the lessons were greatly needed. See pictures below of Josh and Carter playing in the townhouse during our long weekend. We had a great time and can't wait to go back to show off our new skills. Happy Birthday Christi!!

Bath time

Josh is a big fan of bath time. He loves splashing around and playing with the rubber ducky courtesy of Aaron, Christi, and Carter. These baths are just practice for swim lessons starting in January.

All I want for Hankkah are my two front

teeth!
thought I could update the blog from my mobile, but only the subject got posted. Anyway, Josh's sleeplessness, tired/cranky attitude and temperature seem to be pointing towards teeth as there is certainly something sharp on the bottom. You can't see it yet, but you can certainly feel it. Perhaps by Hanukkah it will have broken the gum line. Wishing everyone a good week!

Tower of Babel

For the past week or so, Josh has been babbeling up a storm. It sounds a lot like "da da" so we'll say that he's trying to talk to me. Plus he also laughs a lot whenever you clap his hands together, or sometimes when you play peek-a-boo with him or just tickle him in general.

High Chair and Rice Cereal

We finally figured we should get Josh a High Chair so he can properly join us at the kitchen table to eat. Additionally, we bought some rice cereal and thought Josh would like to try a bit (consisted of mostly milk). Enjoy the video

Tom and Anna's Wedding in NYC

The weekend of 10/24/09, we spent in New York City to celebrate Tom Lipkin and Anna Gay's wedding. The wedding was awesome and the reception was in a spectacular place. Unfortunately, our camera was not operating properly so we only got 2 pictures of the weekend so we'll have to get pics from others and post to the blog. The ones we did get are of the three of us at the top of the Empire State Building as well as Bob and myself with Josh inside of Macy's after Josh had been properly changed and fed. This trip also constituted Josh's first airplane flight. He did very well both ways, especially on the way there so we have not yet been put on the "Do Not Fly List". Congrats again to Anna and Tom and many more joyous years of being together.

Rollover

So now its official, hide your bottles and toys, Josh has rolled over

Fall 2009

On Saturday, we were paid a visit by the Davis-Ross family which includes Amy, Kevin, Peter, and Lucy. Peter and Lucy did a good job of giving us a run down of what we need to do in our house to babyproof it for when Josh gets a bit older. Here's a picture of Amy, Peter, Lucy, and Josh playing on the patio.

Once the Davis-Ross' got a tour of the house, we ventured out to the apple orchard. There's a wonderful apple orchard that our friends Glenn & Jessica introduced us to years ago. We went this weekend, as will hopefully be a yearly tradtion, and snapped this family photo. It was a bit windy, so we had to break out the hat from Jamie to keep Josh warm! Happy Fall!

We love to catch pictures of Joshua smiling. I know some people don't like naked babies, but he's got a diaper on! How can you not be happy, looking at a baby smiling. In other news, Josh rolled over this morning - should be able to get a video on the blog before we head to NYC this weekend!

Jump around!

Josh officially turned 4 months old a week ago! He had his 4 month appointment and weighed in at 15 pounds 1 ounce and was 24.5 inches long, keeping at his 50% pace which is great. Now that Josh is getting a bit longer and able to hold his head up, we thought he might enjoy this jumperoo toy courtesy of Uncle Al, Aunt Deena, and Cousin Kira. What do you think?

Blog Updates

Since I'm actually able to sit at the computer for a few hours today, I thought I'd share some pictures that hadn't made it on the blog yet this summer. they are in reverse chronological order from September to August

Josh getting a little fresh with Annie!
Aiden visiting from Boston. sorry, Sara May, his face is a little cut off, but they're both looking at the camera! Aiden came to visit just after Josh was born, don't they both look older?!
Our second baseball game of the summer. Remember when we went to the first? Though he doesn't look very happy, I think it's more because of the way I'm holding him, than that he wasn't in a good mood. He actually stayed awake for most of the game.
Josh looking out the window, just before bedtime.
Uncle Adam came to meet Joshua!

TV

In honor of this being turn off the tv week, here's a picture of our new tv taken last week that I currently cannot watch

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Turn Off TV Week

This week, we’re not turning on the TV. What, you just bought a big 63 inch TV? What - it’s premiere week, you say? Well the TV’s not going anywhere soon, and one week without TV won’t break it. Plus we do have a DVR, so we can watch the shows that we like that premiered, later. Also, I gave an exemption for football. Only football because I had to pick my battles.
We don’t watch TV while Josh is awake certainly, but it’s on the rest of the time we’re home, unfortunately.
See, I’m trying to develop a good environment where our kids are active and the best way for that to happen is if Mom & Dad are active. I think that starts with less TV. Last night I had my 2nd of 4 personal training sessions at the gym and Jared has his intramural football game tonight. We’re staying active by turning the TV off. There are other ways to get the information you need: weather and sports stats are online and do you really need to hear all the bad stuff going on in the world on the news right before you fall asleep?
Plus you then have time to read, and talk to your family. We both read magazines this week. We have stacks of them that we never completely get through. We talked to family and each other more. We enjoyed the quiet before bed and had a much calmer morning.

What do you think? Could you not watch TV for a week? Try doing your own week, and join us in the spring!

Morning spitting

Here's a video of a typical morning when Josh wakes up and is playing in his crib when we walk in to see him. He'll smile back at us and then we'll go back and forth making raspberry noises. Lots of fun

Good Morning Dad!

Jared was in New York this weekend for a bachelor party - so I sent him this picture of Josh in the morning. Josh really is a morning person - cooing and smiling and really active. Something his sleep-in-late-on-the-weekend parents are going to have to get used to!

Get in my Mouth!

Recently, Josh has been trying to put anything he can get his hands on in his mouth. Can teeth be far behind??

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Fan of the ceiling fan

Like most babies, Josh loves looking at mobiles and ceiling fans that move above him while he is lying down

Josh in a kid size leather recliner

So, the last time Jared bought a TV was in 2002. Yup, he's had his TV longer than he's been married to me. We thought it was about time to give in a get a large flat panel TV. while Jared was haggling with the salesman, I found these cute leather recliners - kid sized - and I couldn't resist a pic. Hope you're having a great labor day!

Band is Cool!

If you've been around me long enough, you've ultimately heard me say that Band was cool at my high school. As proof, this alum's version of Sweet Child of Mine, by Guns 'n' Roses.

Take that Jared.

Happy Baby!

Jared caught this pic this morning as we were getting ready to leave the house. It's amazing how much bigger Josh looks compared to two weeks ago! have a great day!

One of Josh's favorite new pastimes is giving rasberries while on his changing table to the bears magically floating above him

Developing

Yes, it's 3 o'clock in the morning, but if I don't update now, I may not get a chance tomorrow at work, they don't pay me for that! When I went to get Joshua this evening/morning, he had turned around 180 degrees! I had put him to bed with his legs towards the window, and when I went to get him his head was towards the window! he's doing a lot of growing up this weekend; maybe he does some of these things during the day, but like I told my dad, he hasn't officially done them until Mom or Dad has seen it! so you, know about the rolling over from below. He also seems to enjoy shrieking at high pitches. he does this when he's happy, but it seems to get higher when he's crying. the people at the library were generous enough to hear it yesterday. he also likes to touch his feet, when he throws them up in the air. he must throw his feet up in the air to get to his side. Finally, I've noticed yesterday that he does motor boat. you know the sound with your lips that sounds like a motor boat? just a few seconds each time, but it's definitely a new trick! ok back to bed, good night!
oh and he LOVES to play on his activity mat, probably could do it for hours; if you change his diaper in his room, he'll kick at the bears probably for hours, too, though since he's starting to roll over, we can't let him stay there as long

There's a Falcon in my Gazeebo

This is what we came home from a lovely visit to Babies R Us to find in the Gazeebo

Trying to rollover

Josh is becoming ever more active and curious. Today while trying to look at himself in the mirror on his activity mat, he continually got halfway to turning over. I guess this is a good accomplishment but not sure we or the house is ready yet for him to be on the move but I think we still have a few more months before that occurrs but it'll be here sooner than we realize

Smile

if you were checking out the blog to make you feel better, these pictures should certainly do it. Josh seems to be in a great mood on Sundays when Jared and I are making dinner, usually grilling in the summer. Jared caught these in the kitchen as Joshua kicked away in his bouncer. He's getting really good at smiling when you smile at him, particularly from Mom and Dad. Hope you have a great day!

Activity Mat at 2.5 months old

Josh is becoming more and more coordinated as you can see with his most recent play on his activity mat

Chicago Botanical Gardens

Adam was in town this weekend to see Josh and babysit on Saturday night, while Cathy and I went out to dinner and a movie to celebrate Cathy's birthday. On Sunday, we went to the Chicago Botanical Gardens on the absolutely hottest and most humid day of the year (95 degrees). Before leaving, we took this family picture that came out pretty well!!

Bath Time

Josh continues to enjoy taking baths in his bathtub from the Georgia Goidels. We tried to give him some facial hair today to see what he'll look like in 80 years.

Tummy time

Josh continues to get stronger and able to keep his head up longer

The Hunt for October

Josh is finally big enough to fit into his Phillies gear and start cheering as we begin the drive to get to the playoffs and hopefully repeat as world series champs. Gotta start'em early!

Ravinia

On Sunday, August 2, 2009, we had a Firestone family outing at the Ravinia Music Festival to listen to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as many of us had free tickets. The weather was picture perfect. Additionally, Sara and Carl brought their significant others, Brett and Tash, respectively. I've attached a group family pic as well as a link to other pics taken during the event.

A sleeping success

For two nights in a row, Joshua has slept for 8 hours straight. Monday night it was 9:45 to 5:45 and last night it was 8:45 to 4:45. That has never happened before, and I can't remember the last time I slept that long either! Though I still didn't sleep that long, myself. With Jared out of town these past two nights, I wake up afraid I haven't heard him crying, but amazingly he's been asleep, peacefully. Let's see if we can't make it three nights in a row

New Message

this is usually what happens in the mornings, about 5 am Josh wakes up and can't be coaxed back to sleep. Since Mom and Dad aren't usually "AWAKE" yet, Josh joins us in bed for a little while. I caught this pic Sunday morning Also, additional video from out Nashville trip

Doctor's visit

We went to the doctor this morning for Joshua's 1 month checkup. He weighed in at a whopping 10 pounds 2 ounces! For those of you counters out there, that's 2 pounds and 8 ounces he's gained in the last month! no wonder my back hurts from carrying him! He also is 21.5 inches long, 1/2 an inch longer than when he was born. both of those are the 50th percentile. just right smack dab in the middle. Considering I'm short, I'm happy to have an average heighted baby! We also got the second shot for Hepatitus B. Cried for just a minute and then he was fine. Slept all afternoon!

Meeting Stella

Glenn, Jessica and Stella came over for dinner on the 2nd, to kick off the holiday weekend, and Jessica caught some cute pix of the kids. Stella played to the camera a bit more - she's a few months older than Joshua - she knows what to do.
